Colleagues and friends of a missing researcher hope he is safe and returns to his work and family, the CDC said Monday afternoon.

Dr. Timothy Cunningham, 35, was reported missing Feb. 14, two days after his last contact with his family, according to Atlanta police. On Feb. 12, Cunningham called out sick from work, his family said. At his home, his parents found his vehicle, wallet and phone.

“Dr. Cunningham's colleagues and friends at CDC hope that he is safe,” a CDC statement said. “We want him to return to his loved ones and his work—doing what he does best as a CDC disease detective—protecting people's health.”

Cunningham is a team lead with CDC’s Division of Population Health, according to his online biography. He has deployed for numerous public health emergencies, including Superstorm Sandy, Ebola, and Zika, the CDC said.
