Students at two Cobb County high schools will be tested for tuberculosis after a student tested positive for the disease, the school system said Thursday.

The student, whose name was not released, is believed to have contracted the disease over the summer, according to Jay Dillon, spokesman for Cobb schools. The student attends Hillgrove High School this year, but attended McEachern High in the spring, Dillon said.

Testing will be done at both schools as a precaution, but no one at either school has shown any symptoms, Dillon said. The enrollment at both schools is about 2,100, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Tuberculosis, or TB, is caused by a bacterium that typically attacks the lungs, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. TB is spread through the air, but not through general contact with others, such as shaking hands, sharing food or drinks, or kissing, according to the CDC.
