Search for armed robber put Wheeler High, East Cobb Middle on lockdown
By Ben Brasch
Sept 19, 2016Cobb County police are looking for an armed robbery suspect who fled toward Wheeler High School and East Cobb Middle School after his getaway car crashed.
Another suspect who was in the car was arrested after the crash, said Sgt. Dana Pierce, spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department.
Investigators are still looking for information, but Pierce said the men entered Simply Mac, an Apple sales and repair store, on Monday about 10:45 a.m. and robbed someone in the store at The Avenue in east Cobb — 4475 Roswell Road, unit No. 420 — using at least one handgun.
The men got into a white pick-up truck with ladders on top and sped off. The truck crashed a bit later on Roswell Road, which is where police arrested the one suspect and sent him to a hospital for treatment of non-serious injuries, Pierce said. The other man ran around the backside of Kroger toward the Azalea Springs Apartments, which is about a half-mile away from the schools.
The schools went into "code yellow" as a precaution until about 12:30 p.m. when they returned to normal, said Ron Storey with the Cobb County School District. Code yellow is the middle of the five codes and means there is a "significant risk" to the school.
Police continue to look for the second suspect who was described as being skinny with short curly hair about two inches long and wearing a grey hoodie with black pants.
Anyone with information can call Cobb police at 770-499-3987.
