The Atlanta Ethics Office is investigating Councilman Michael Julian Bond following a recent news report that raised questions about his spending habits, ethics officer Nina Hickson confirmed Monday.

TV station WXIA reported last week that Bond used public tax dollars on personal items, including party favors for a high school reunion, a private math tutor and a four-day business trip to Washington in which he also attended a family reunion.

Bond, a Post 1 at-large councilman, said Monday that he welcomes the inquiry and pledged to aid the office in its investigation.

“I don’t believe I’ve done anything wrong either legally, procedurally or ethically,” Bond said. “I will lend as much help as I can.”

Hickson’s office is also investigating District 4 Councilwoman Cleta Winslow following an investigation by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution of her reimbursements and expenses earlier this year.
