Two construction projects at Fayette County schools will move ahead following approval of funding from the Board of Education at its last monthly meeting. The board voted unanimously on Oct. 18 to pay for a new baseball concession stand at Sandy Creek High School by reallocating $220,000 in surplus funds from a warehouse roofing project and $100,000 from paving projects.

The board also approved a proposed budget of $420,000 for architectural and engineering design services to renovate Fayetteville Elementary School for the first time in 40 years. Facilities Director Mike Satterfield recommended, and the board approved, awarding the design contract to Atlanta-based BRPH Architects. Assistant Superintendent Mike Sanders said the full cost of the renovation can’t be estimated until the design work is done, since construction costs have risen considerably over the past year. Superintendent Jonathan Patterson noted that state funds will also be used to finance what will be a multi-million-dollar project.
