The city of Canton’s new parking deck is expected to open mid-year on the corner of Archer Street and West Marietta Street.
“I’m thrilled about our city’s deck project,” said City Manager Billy Peppers in a statement. “The forward thinking of our Roadmap for Success provides for sustainability options on this deck.”
Among them will be a solar array on the top of the deck to offset the power needs of the deck and provide a credit to offset consumption at City Hall.
Funding will come from the special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST).
“Our general fund will reap the future benefit of these offset electric costs. A win-win for Canton!” Peppers added.
The deck will feature two independent levels - the bottom level accessible from Archer Street and the second or top level accessible from behind City Hall.
The top level will feature and be partially covered by an 80 kilowatt solar array as well as provide 10 electric car charging stations for public use - partly funded by a partnership with Georgia Power.
