Q: A friend is slowly but surely experiencing severe vision loss. I’ve been shopping without success for items that would make her life easier and safer but, so far, my online searches have only yielded products with poor customer ratings. I was hoping to purchase a liquid level indicator (battery operated?) that beeps when pouring liquids from one container to another to prevent over-filling and spilling. I’m also interested in finding other such items for the vision impaired but my online searches have been surprisingly disappointing. Surely she is not the only person who could benefit from resources of this kind. Can you suggest a site or store? Thanks so much. — Chris Drake, Atlanta
A: Chris, your friend is in luck because Atlanta is home to the Center For The Visually Impaired (CVI). Its mission is to empower those impacted by vision loss, allowing them to live with independence and dignity. Among its services, which include the Florence Maxwell Low Vision Clinic, New View adult rehabilitation and various support groups, CVI offers the VisAbility Store, 739 W. Peachtree St., 404-602-4358. The store stocks a vibrating level indicator that’s battery operated. It’s priced at $14.99, and I’ve seen positive reviews for a similar model sold in England. You should find many helpful items at this store.
Q: I’m having trouble finding two products from the Shea Moisture brand: yucca and baobab thickening shampoo with biotin and bamboo extract for fine, thin hair; and the yucca and baobab thickening growth milk with biotin and bamboo extract for fine, thin hair. The first time I bought it was at Target, and they also sell products at Walmart, but not this particular item anymore. Thank you in advance. — Vivian Taylor, Riverdale
A: Vivian, I found plenty of your particular Shea Moisture formulas — the shampoo and the growth milk — for $10.99 at Walgreens, 6665 Highway 85, Riverdale, 770-907-6934. Since this formula is getting more difficult to find, you might consider stocking up.
Q: I recently visited a friend out of state, and she served the most delicious pancakes that had a malt flavor. They were probably the best I’ve ever tasted. I’ve looked around but can’t find this brand. It’s called Carbon’s, which is a name I’m not familiar with at all. She doesn’t remember where she bought it. Can you please help? — H. Westmore, Atlanta
A: I found your pancake and waffle mix, but not at a conventional supermarket. You can pick up Carbon’s Golden Malted Pancake and Waffle flour at Cost Plus World Market, 3330 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, 404-814-0801. A 33-ounce can costs $7.99. Ingredients include wheat and corn flours, malt powder, salt, sugar and buttermilk.

One of the most popular request from readers has to be Revlon Flex shampoo. It seems that this once popular shampoo had a fragrance that fans loved so much, some of them wanted a perfume created bearing the fragrance. Well, Revlon didn’t attempt a shampoo-inspired scent and, in fact, the company stopped making Flex shampoo and conditioner in 2010. Nowadays, the cosmetics company doesn’t make any shampoos at all, and the only hair care products Revlon produces are various hair colors and highlights. For now, there are still a few bottles of Flex shampoo on eBay, but the prices run around $20 to $25 for a 20-ounce bottle.
