A simple evergreen wreath makes sure that the nation's fallen military are not forgotten during the holiday season.
It's an annual tradition that may fall short this year.
"Wreaths Across America," a nonprofit group, started placing wreaths at the eligible grave markers in Arlington National Cemetery in 1992.
In 2014, they were able to put one on every grave, but recently the group, which is based in Maine, went to Facebook and Twitter, pleading for funding for 30,000 wreaths, WTOP reported.
Money came in, but the group was still short Tuesday about 8,000 wreaths.
The deadline has been extended until Dec. 9 to sponsor one of the wreaths, two days before volunteers are scheduled to brave the cold and early morning to honor the dead on 230,000 graves.
That will happen on Dec. 12
Sponship is $15 per wreath. Click here for more information.
