Quilt raffle: In 1975, the organization then known as the Lutheran Church Women at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church presented a handmade quilt to a former pastor, the late Rev. William Martin. Now it will find a new home. The quilt, designed by former member Sue Jones, has been donated for a raffle this fall. Ticket sales will be held Aug. 16 through the morning of Oct. 19. The winner will be selected during the annual meeting on Oct. 19. Tickets are $3 and proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Holy Trinity House at Lutheranch. 5K run to help children: The Third Annual R(un) for One 5K and Fun Run will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday at Woolsey Baptist Church, 115 Hampton Road in Fayetteville. A kids' 1-mile fun run will be held at 8:45 a.m. with the awards ceremony at 9:30 a.m. The event is sponsored by Lifeline Children's Services, which has an office in Tyrone. People can register the day of the race between 7 and 7:45 a.m. The cost for the 5K is $35 and the kids' run is $15. Founders Day at McAfee: The Rev. Dock Hollingsworth, pastor of Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, will be the speaker during the Founders Day service at the McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University. Emory University's Candler School of Theology recently received a $460,000 grant from the Lilly Endowment to lead a study on the purposes of theological education in a time of significant change. The program, "Theological Education Between the Times: Consultations on the Meanings and Purposes of Theological Education," will bring together theological educators to reflect on the nature of theological education.
