Go look at the serious novels, dear, Mommy’s busy coloring.
If you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing this bit of role reversal while herding kiddie cats in the middle of a busy bookstore, has Barnes & Noble got a deal for you!
On Saturday, the nationwide chain is unleashing its "All-American Art Unwind" event, where adults can color in a group, guilt-free setting. Meant to take advantage of the growing adult coloring phenomenon, the sessions will allow customers to try their hand, literally, on some of today's bestselling coloring books and "personalize with color" a selection of Hallmark greeting cards and envelopes they can send to friends and family (maybe it's a way to knock off that pesky holiday card mailing list, hmm) .
Think of it as a Crayola-tinted version of Freaky Friday. The event even offers the opportunity of the social media-era version of hanging one's finished artwork on the refrigerator: In-store participants can color a piece of art designed by a renowned coloring book illustrator, Millie Marotta; they can then upload a photo of their finished handiwork to Instagram or Twitter, along with a special hashtag, and visit www.BNArtUnwind.com later to see if it's been selected for inclusion in a "nationwide digital art mosaic" being created.
The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at metro Atlanta Barnes & Nobles. For more information, check under "events" at barnesandnoble.com or call the individual stores.
