KENNESAW

Skateboarding charity event

Professional skateboarder Tony Hawk is free-wheeling into town, and he’s bringing a few of his friends to support a good cause. The Get Rad for Ray event celebrates the life of Ray Underhill, one of Hawk’s fellow skaters, and will raise money to help families affected by chordoma, a rare form of spinal cancer. The day begins with Kennesaw Skateshop holding a beginner’s clinic. Those with a little more experience are invited to compete in an amateur contest. Both events require registration online. Hawk and his crew then will let loose with a skate jam featuring some of the sport’s rising stars and a host of famous skaters. Though the event is free, attendees can support the cause through donations and raffles going on throughout the day.

11 a.m.-4 p.m. June 19. Free. Swift-Cantrell Park, 3140 Old 41 Highway, Kennesaw. 770-422-9714, skatekennesaw.com.
