Last year, the producers of The Simpsons revealed where Springfield is actually located. Well, this year they revealed an iconic character is going to be killed off.
"A Simpsons executive producer let out the secret during a conference call. The only clue, the actor playing the character has won an Emmy. That's no help — the show has 25." (Via WOIO)
Executive producer Al Jean spilled the beans, but with more than 20 Emmy awards spread out among the Simpsons cast, it doesn't really narrow it down. (Via Los Angeles Times)
E! Online took a stab at it, guessing it would be either Princess Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway, Sideshow Bob, played by Kelsey Grammer, or Marge's mom Jacqueline, played by Julie Kavner.
The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Jean who said, "We are doing this story for the same reason we do all others — we think it has a good emotional through line." Jean went on to say he hoped the move would help the show get, quote, "Breaking Bad-type numbers."
Since it first aired a quarter of a century ago, the show has written-in seven past deaths including Homer's Las Vegas wife, Amber; Ned's wife Maude Flanders; Homer's mom Mona; mob boss Fat Tony and Lisa's saxophone mentor Bleeding Gums Murphy. (Via Rolling Stone)
So without any real direction, the victim is impossible to figure out.
Jean says the episode will air sometime in mid to late 2014.
