More than two decades since the death of rapper and actor Tupac Shakur, a report claims that record producer and music executive Suge Knight has named a record company security chief and his ex-wife responsible for the 1996 murder, but Knight’s attorney Thaddeus Culpepper, says it’s not true.

The British gossip site The Daily Mail reported Monday that Culpepper wrote in a signed affidavit that "Knight has known for many years that Reggie Wright Jr. and his ex-wife Sharitha were behind the murder of Tupac and attempted murder of Knight."

The affidavit, of which The Daily Mail did not provide documentation, claims that Shakur was the casualty of a hit that was intended for Knight.

According to The Daily Mail, the affidavit also claims Knight knows details of Wright’s involvement in the murder of rapper The Notorious B.I.G., born Christopher Wallace, who was killed in 1997.

Culpepper issued a statement to TheWrap Tuesday saying the claims were false.

“Very recently, a press release was issued stating that Attorney Thaddeus J. Culpepper wrote and signed an affidavit regarding the assassination of Tupac Shakur,” the statement said. “The writers of the press release also state that the alleged affidavit contains statements from Suge Knight. The press release cites no author.

“As counsel for Mr. Knight, my duty is to assist him in proving his innocence in his present cases. I have never made any official statement regarding Tupac Shakur, nor have I made any statements on my client’s behalf regarding Mr. Shakur, written or otherwise. Articles relying on this unattributed press release are without merit.”

“That affidavit is fake news,” Culpepper told TheWrap.

Knight is currently facing charges of murder and attempted murder after hitting and running over music businessman Terry Carter and actor Cle "Bone" Sloan in 2015. The Los Angeles Times reported that Knight is accused of killing Carter and seriously injuring Sloan after a confrontation on the set of the N.W.A. biopic "Straight Outta Compton."

Knight’s lawyers at the time claimed he was escaping attackers when the men were run over.
