Lawrenceville-based National Vision, which operates America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses and Eyeglass World, is being acquired by investment firm KKR.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but some news outlets pegged the price tag at slightly more than $1 billion.
National Vision operations more than 750 low-price vision centers across the United States, including outlets in Wal-Mart, Fred Meyer and on military bases. The company also sells online through 25 websites, including www.aclens.com and www.discountcontactlenses.com.
“We have had an absolutely marvelous eight year relationship with Berkshire Partners and are so appreciative of all they have done to support our growth and help get us to where we are today,” Reade Fahs, chief executive officer of National Vision, said in a statement. “The NVI team is anticipating and looking forward to a very similar sort of relationship with KKR.”
