Metro Atlanta home sales fall while prices continue to rise

Home sales in metro Atlanta fell in February — the result of bad weather and a low supply of available houses — as prices continued to rise.

February sales in an 11-county metro Atlanta region dropped 19.1 percent from 2013, the Atlanta Board of Realtors said. Ennis Antoine, the organization’s president-elect, said in a statement that the dip was not surprising considering a February storm and inventory levels that remain low. February sales fell 8.5 percent from January.

At the same time, the median sales price rose 16.9 percent in February over the year before, to $187,000.

“We do expect to see that upward trend continue, both in pricing and sales as we progress through the spring and summer,” Antoine said in the statement.
