Hiring for the holidays

HoneyBaked Ham, which has more than 20 locations in metro Atlanta, plans to hire 10,000 holiday employees.
Kristen Lenze, a spokeswoman, said about 1,000 of those will go to work at HoneyBaked Ham’s 24 metro Atlanta stores. That is about 40 additional employees per store.
Positions include hourly associates, seasonal gifting sales associates, shift store supervisors, store managers, call center representatives, food production associates and packing and shipping associates.
HoneyBaked Ham joins a growing list of retailers looking for workers in advance of a shopping season they expect to be strong. Outplacement consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. expects retailers to add more than 800,000 workers this holiday season, the most since the 1999 season.
Retailers that have announced plans to hire thousands of seasonal workers include Macy’s, GameStop, Toys ‘R’ Us and Wal-Mart. Shipping giants UPS and FedEx also are hiring thousands for the holidays.
John Challenger, chief executive officer of Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc., said job seekers should consider opportunities beyond retailers, including restaurants, caterers, movie theaters, and other entertainment and leisure venues that tend to increase hiring for the holidays.
