Friday's deadly plane crash on I-285 at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard prompted DeKalb County School District officials to delay dismissal from schools in the system's northern region.

"This accident is having a severe impact on traffic and will impact dismissal from numerous schools in the northern region including the Chamblee, Dunwoody, and Cross Keys feeder pattern within the DeKalb County School District," school spokesman Quinn Hudson said in an emailed statement. "... The school day will be extended until every child has been transported by bus or picked up by a parent or guardian. Our number one priority is to ensure the safety of our children.  Therefore, school staff will continue to provide supervision, food, and shelter."
