In the wake of Jeb!'s announcement this week that he intends to become the third Bush president in the last five presidencies, my colleague Kyle and I decided to talk a bit about the emergence of political dynasties and what may be driving them.
It's also interesting to note that the Bushes and Clintons have actually grown pretty close over the years, with Bill Clinton jokingly referring to himself as the "black sheep son" of the elder President Bush and George W. Bush calling Bill his "brother from another mother." In many ways, they have much more in common with each other than with anybody else that they're likely to run across.
Not that the Battle of the Dynasties won't get nasty, should it come down to that. You don't get to a position of power like that and sustain yourself over time at that level by being faint-hearted or less than ruthless.
