AT&T’s high speed GigaPower fiber network is coming to Atlanta-based Novare Group’s community of SkyHouse apartments, the telecom giant said Wednesday.
As many as 1,800 residents of SkyHouse apartments in six cities — including at least 1,000 in metro Atlanta — will be offered the high-speed network in an agreement struck between Novare and AT&T.
“Our residents now have the advantage of ultra-fast Internet,” Jim Borders, president and CEO of Novare Group, said in a statement. “Having the most advanced technology available at our properties sets us apart and allows us to enhance the lives of our SkyHouse residents.”
The announcement is part of a race to offer metro Atlantans gigabit fiber speeds so fast you can download a 14-gigabyte movie in less than two minutes.
Over the past two years, the high-speed providers — Comcast, Google Fiber and AT&T — have been telling consumers the general areas where they were planning gigabit fiber.
Then last month Google began informing specific apartment and condo complexes that its service was coming, including immediate sign ups at Wesley Plantation apartments in Duluth and Westbury Park in Marietta.
