Gusty winds picked up speed Wednesday afternoon.

Wind gusts reached 30 mph just before 2 p.m., according to Channel 2 Action News.

That wind helped spread smoke from North Georgia wildfires to parts of metro Atlanta.

“Smoke is really covering up Stone Mountain right now,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

Temperatures were 68 degrees in Atlanta, 62 in Blairsville and 68 in Griffin just before 2:20 p.m.

They are expected to reach a high of 69 degrees by 4 p.m.

Breezy conditions won’t subside until late Wednesday, meteorologist Karen Minton said.

“Once those winds become more calm, then that smoke will not be able to make its way in here throughout the rest of the evening,” Minton said. “But for now we’re going to deal with that as we bring those winds in across the region.”

Temps will continue decreasing later this week and drop to the 30s Sunday.

“And as we check out your five-day forecast, our temperatures will be in the upper 60s again for tomorrow, lots of sunshine though and cool in the mornings,” Minton said.

Highs are forecast to reach 69 degrees Thursday, 71 Friday and 63 Saturday.
