After losing 113 pounds, Kimberly Flowers wanted to brave the AJC Peachtree Road Race. She succeeded.

Flowers, along with friend Heni Jordan, ran the race Tuesday. She completed it in 1:46:10, her best time yet.

“I was so proud of that,” she said. “I met some friends along the .… It was just a fun, fun day and everyone seemed to do well.”

It’s been a long build up to this point. Sixteen months ago, Flowers weighed 307 pounds. With the help of her nutritionist and friends, she adopted a program and quickly changed the outlook of her life.

Flowers said she did better than she expected, and is certain she’ll return next year.

“It’s a big goal that I’ve acheived along the way,” she said. ‘It’s a big bucket list checkoff that I never even thought would be on my bucket list. I never thought I could do this. I’m not done with my journey, but this is a big milestone to hit along the way.”

Jordan has been among Flowers’ strongest supporters, if not her most valuable one. They’ve known each other for two decades, and were roommates before Jordan got married.

She said Flowers was nervous in the morning and ready to leave too early. The excitement translated on the course.

“We’ve been supportive of each other for a long, long time,” Jordan said. “Emotionally, in so many different ways. It’s such a wonderful feeling to be here for Kimberly and to be able to support her through this incredible journey.”
