Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff is getting ready for the team’s first appearance in the NFC Championship game during his five-year tenure. He spoke with staff writer D. Orlando Ledbetter about the state of the Falcons:

Q: Do you dream about an Atlanta vs. New England matchup in the Super Bowl?

A: Listen, I've dreamed about Atlanta vs. New England matchups, whether it was in the preseason, regular season or the postseason, since I've left there, to be quite honest with you. Obviously, I have nothing but the utmost respect for Bill (Belichick), the Patriots and what Tom Brady does.

Q: Any gloating over how left tackle Sam Baker has played this season after everybody wanted to run him out of town?

A: No gloating at all. We all understood what Sam could bring to the field for us. He's a talented left tackle.

Q: How far does your relationship with new director of player personnel Lionel Vital go back?

A: The very first time that that I met Lionel was when I had to walk into his room to be the Turk and basically cut him in Saskatchewan (Canada). About three weeks later I called him to ask him if he was interested in scouting in the World League of American Football.
