The Braves’ Sean Newcomb is attended to by training staff after being hit by a line drive during a game against the Philadelphia Phillies at SunTrust Park on Saturday.

Four days after pitcher Sean Newcomb was struck in the back of the head by a 102-mph line drive, the Braves placed him on MLB’s concussion injured list Wednesday.

Newcomb’s placement on the seven-day concussion IL was backdated to Tuesday, the Braves said.

Manager Brian Snitker said Newcomb felt fine Wednesday, but experienced concussion symptoms the day before for the first time.

“After some working out and all (Tuesday), he showed effects that he hadn’t had before,” Snitker said. “Consequently, we’ve got to make sure he’s OK.”

Newcomb threw in the bullpen Wednesday afternoon, but he wasn’t available for comment.

Snitker said the Braves will “monitor” Newcomb in the coming days and probably will have him pitch an inning for Triple-A Gwinnett before he comes off the concussion list next week.

Newcomb was struck by a line drive off the bat of the Phillies' J.T. Realmuto in the third inning of Saturday's game. Newcomb made a spot start in that game.

To take Newcomb’s place on the roster for Wednesday’s game, the Braves recalled 21-year-old right-handed pitcher Huascar Ynoa from Gwinnett. The move gave the Braves a long-relief option after Touki Toussaint and Josh Tomlin pitched two innings apiece the night before.

Ynoa was summoned to SunTrust Park for the second time in less than a week. He was promoted from Gwinnett on Saturday, pitched two scoreless innings against the Phillies in his big-league debut Sunday and was optioned back to Gwinnett on Monday.
