A 59-year-old woman who lost her daughter to bowel cancer four years ago wants to grant her only child's wish by delivering one of her babies, according to the Daily Mail.
Before the daughter died, she signed a consent form that stipulated three of her eggs were to be removed and stored for later use.
The woman, however, "failed to fill in a separate form which indicated how she wished the eggs to be used. This technically meant her consent became invalid."
UK doctors have refused to carry out the procedure, leaving the mother trying to ship the eggs to a New York clinic that offered to perform the procedure for $90,000.
But the British government has said no to her request to export the eggs three times. Now the woman is taking her plea to the UK's High Court.
Experts say that despite being post-menopausal, the woman could still become pregnant. The procedure would require supplemental hormones and carries a high risk not only for the woman but also for the child.
If the mother’s efforts fail the eggs will be destroyed in 2018, ten years after being frozen.
