The parents of a 3-year-old boy say their son made a miraculous recovery after doctors told them to say their final goodbyes.
Dylan Askin was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer that caused cysts on his lungs. He began receiving treatment, and for a while things were looking up.
But about a month later, Dylan collapsed at his nursery school in England. After being rushed to a hospital, doctors discovered both his lungs had collapsed.
He was placed on life support and was placed in the intensive care unity at Queen's Medical Center in Nottingham, the Telegraph reported. Things took a turn of the worse after Dylan contracted an infection, and doctors told parents Mike and Kerry Askin to say their final goodbyes.
"On Good Friday we were told he wasn't going to survive and we had him baptized and said goodbye," Kerry told the Derby Telegraph.
As a part of the process for taking him off life support, doctors took Dylan off muscle sedatives. That’s when he started to move his legs.
After running tests, doctors realized he had a chance to live, his family said.
His parents and older brother, 6-year-old Bryce, were in disbelief.
"We had told Bryce that Dylan wasn’t coming back, so when we explained that he had got better Dylan said, ‘Oh, so he’s like Jesus then,'" recalled Kerry. "I said, 'You’re not wrong,' He had just risen from the dead."
He has since been discharged from the hospital and is still getting treatment for the cysts on his lungs. But otherwise, Dylan is doing well.
His parents are optimistic about the future.
"We’re just wary of infections now with winter approaching, but it’s incredible the recovery he’s made."
