An embarrassing misprint ended up in a generous donation to an animal rescue group, thanks to the good humor of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff's official rug had arrived wtih a misprint, with the words "In Dog We Trust" instead of "In God We Trust" emblazoned on the seal.
"It has been brought to our attention, and we're working to fix it," department spokeswomen Cristen Smith told "The New York Daily News."
But after receiving national attention for the typo, the department decided to sell the “dog” rug and donate the proceeds to an animal rescue group.
The rug cost about $500, and the opening bid was $100. After tens of thousands of visitors to the online auction site, the rug sold to the highest bidder Wednesday for $9,650.
