Man captures wild road rage crash on cellphone

"I watched half of it and then it dawned on me, I need to be filming this," Curtis told WSOC-TV.

He raised his cellphone and started shooting.

The video clip shows a white Blazer and a black Lexus SUV driving around each other with the drivers occasionally slamming the brakes. According to witnesses, one driver cut the other off, and they pursued each other for more than a mile.

"When I started filming I figured it was going to get worse, because they were both looking like they were mad," he said.

The video shows the cars passing each other.

Then as they approached a Citgo gas station on Highway 70, the black Lexus SUV pulled in front of the white Blazer, causing an accident. The SUVs collided, then both spun out in the road.

Both drivers got out and confronted each other, but there was no assault, according to police.

The driver of the Lexus asked Curtis for his cellphone video; he took it to Conover police instead.

He couldn't believe two adults were so angry they didn't think about the other drivers they were putting in danger.

"They just couldn't let it be. They should have just gone on down the road," Curtis said.

Late Tuesday, Conover police filed charges against both drivers. Ryan Gregory, 23, of Hudson, and Jeffrey Burkey, 64, of Davidson, were given a court summons for reckless driving.
