Group makes surprise arrangements for injured firefighter to attend Garth Brooks concert

A volunteer firefighter injured in the line of duty was surprised Thursday with the chance to attend this weekend’s Garth Brooks concert.
Munhall Volunteer Fire Department Lt. Alex Scripp, 19, fell from a second-story window while fighting a house fire on Marion Street last week.
“I originally went in the window and climbed inside, but they told me to come out because they thought the roof was going to collapse,” said Scripp.
On his way out, Scripp said he lost his footing and fell from the ladder, breaking both his knees and his left leg in two places.
Scripp said what’s been the most difficult is not being able to help out on calls. Another disappointment was the thought of missing his favorite musician perform at Consol Energy Center.
Before the accident, Scripp had bought tickets to the Brooks concert but was told he wouldn’t be able to go due to his injuries. That was until Jamie’s Dream Team stepped in.
The group arranged for Scripp to be transported in an ambulance and looked after by White Oaks EMS.
Overwhelmed by the generosity, Scripp had only one thing that he wanted people to know.
“(I’m) not a hero. (I) got hurt doing my job, and I’d do it again tomorrow if I had to,” said Scripp.
Consol Energy Center was able to arrange for Scripp to have special seating at the venue, so he won’t have to worry about anyone bumping into him during the concert.
