The House voted 227 to 198 Friday afternoon to pass a budget bill that paves the way to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

The Senate voted 51-48 to approve the legislation on Thursday.

More than 480,000 Georgians have signed up for Obamacare coverage for 2017 so far.

Georgia Congressman Doug Collins, a Republican from Gainesville, spoke in favor of the bill Friday afternoon.

“We’re going to do this right,” Collins said. “We’re not going to pull the rug out from under anyone.”

Under Obamacare, premiums have gone up and people have fewer choices than ever, which in many cases is no choice at all, he said.

“This is a failure ... and it’s time to end,” Collins concluded.

The bill does not repeal the health care law on its own. It tells four committees -- two in the House and two in the Senate -- to each write bills that cut at least $1 billion from the deficit over a decade. Their deadline is Jan. 27.

The House and Senate Budget committees would then together combine the measures to create a repeal package.

Republicans need 218 votes in the House to pass the bill.
