UPDATE: US officials believe North Korea tested an intercontinental ballistic missile last night, according to an NBC report.

North Korea's state media said Tuesday that the country's military successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile that "can reach anywhere in the world," CNN reported.

The missile test, conducted on the orders of North Korea leader Kim Jong-un, reached an altitude of 1,741 miles, according to Korea Central Television.

North Korean television referred to the missile as Hwasong-14. It landed in waters east of the Korean Peninsula, according to a Japanese defense official.
