Roswell celebrates Watermelon Day

By Johnny Edwards
July 18, 2012

To celebrate Watermelon Day, the Riverside Farmer's Market in Roswell will hold watermelon eating and seed spitting contests Saturday, with Georgia's 2012 Watermelon Queen officiating. Laurel Higginbotham's visit, from 8 a.m. to noon, is part of her official duties to welcome in summer and teach Georgians about the plant's nutritional and economic value.

There will also be a children's tent, live music and made-to-order crepes. The Fulton County Cooperative Extension operates the farmer's market every Saturday morning in the parking lot of Roswell City Hall, 38 Hill St.
