The Henry County Board of Commissioners denied a rezoning request for a proposed apartment complex on Jonesboro Road just west of Interstate 75 and the Henry Town Center retail corridor.
A crowd of local residents came out in opposition to the request, which would have resulted in 120 apartment units developed through state low-income housing tax credits. The proposal would also have required a change in the county’s comprehensive land use plan, which was also denied. The site is currently zoned for general commercial use.
Opponents who addressed the board frequently compared the proposal to a housing project and cited higher crime and lower property values among the reasons not to allow it.
