Now that Peachtree City’s Lake Peachtree has been restored to full capacity, city residents might someday be able to rent watercraft to use on it.
The City Council heard a proposal at its June 20 meeting from Rob Rothley, owner of Leisure Lifestyle Products, to set up a rental dock near Picnic Park offering a limited number of paddleboats, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, pedal boats, canoes and “HydroBikes.” Rentals would be limited to Peachtree City residents; the estimated $10-$35 per hour cost would include life jackets, two-way radios and trained staff on hand for emergencies. However, some lakefront residents have already voiced objections.
Council members and City Manager Jon Rorie said the proposal has merit for expanding recreation opportunities but requires further study since it would set a precedent for other commercial activity on the lake.
