The Insurance Service office, which grades fire departments nationally, has lowed John’s Creek class 4/9 rating in 2010 to an overall rating of 2 on a 1-10 scale, with the lower number signifying better fire protection. City officials said that reflected several improvements, including hiring additional firefighters, purchasing more trucks and beefing up training.
City officials said the new rating going into effect July 1 will save the owner of a $500,000 home about $290 in annual insurance premiums, and that only 33 of Georgia’s almost 1000 fire departments rate at class 2 of better.
