City Council has extended the due date for business license fees to June 30. Extending the date past June could jeopardize the amount of revenue the city receives from businesses in the current fiscal year, said Mayor Mike Bodker.

Business license fees bring in about $1 million annually, he said.

City Council had previously extended the deadline to May 31. They unanimously approved the extension during a teleconferenced meeting on Monday. Before the vote, Councilwoman Stephanie Andres suggested extending the deadline to July 31. Business owners have told her they have limited cash flow since Johns Creek declared a state of emergency in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, she said.

Bodker convinced City Council members to extend the deadline only to the end of June. He said business owners who don’t pay by then could receive a court citation requiring payment by November 30.

“We’re talking about $1 million historically that hasn’t been paid this year,” said Bodker. “[June 30] helps us from a consistency of accounting standpoint.”
