The Henry County Police Department’s HEAT program will receive a $60,911.34 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to fund a portion of its personnel and operating costs. The grant was officially accepted Oct. 18 by the Henry County Board of Commissioners.
The HEAT unit’s main purpose is to enforce DUI laws, traffic laws and occupant safety laws. It has one sergeant and three officers. The grant will fund 40 percent of the expenses associated with one of those officers as well as the sergeant.
