Kennesaw’s Smith-Gilbert Gardens is inviting avid bird watchers and residents to participate in the upcoming Great Backyard Bird Count.

The count, which provides a snapshot of bird distribution to help scientists understand any changes, is coordinated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The 23rd annual event will take place Feb. 14-17, and the Gardens will host and submit its own count from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 15.

Residents will be able to take guided bird tours throughout the morning. Please note you should bring your binoculars. A story time for children will be hosted by West Cobb Public Library and will include a scavenger hunt and crafts. For a separate fee, you’ll also be able to participate in a build-your-own bluebird house activity.

The cost to attend the count is included in the Gardens' admission. Smith-Gilbert Gardens is located at 2382 Pine Mountain Road in Kennesaw. For more information, email Kathy Post at info@smithgilbertgardens.com or visit the Gardens' website.
