Fulton County Schools Assistant Superintendent Rob Anderson may be the new superintendent at Boulder Valley Schools in Colorado. After a national search produced two finalists, the Boulder Valley school board on Tuesday voted 6-1 to hire him, according to a report by the Boulder Daily Camera.

The news agency reported that pending successful contract negotiations, Anderson starts July 1.

Currently the deputy superintendent for academics in the 96,870-student Fulton County School district, Anderson has 21 years of experience in education, including as a teacher and high school principal.

Candidates were put through a rigorous interview where members of the public asked questions.

Anderson started his career as a math and science teacher in Orlando, Fla. He went on to work in several leadership roles in the Orange County Public School system, including eight years as a high school principal.

He moved to Fulton County Schools six years ago, where he’s worked for the past three years as deputy superintendent of academics.

Anderson said in community interviews that effective teachers are the “No. 1 factor” in improving schools.

He also said he would focus on early literacy and wants to build on the district’s strategic plan. The plan, he said, is missing measurable targets.

According to search firm Ray and Associates, 79 candidates completed the application process for the Boulder Valley superintendent job.
