Former Decatur Superintendent Phyllis Edwards has moved to Palm Coast, Fla., where she’s applied to several universities for a post teaching educational leadership.

Edwards resigned as superintendent in February 2015, but continued working through mid November (her contract expired Dec. 31). Shortly before leaving Decatur, Edwards announced she was taking a job with the Georgia School Board Association, where she would’ve worked for former Decatur Board Chair Valarie Wilson, now the GSBA’s executive director.

“I wanted to work with Valarie,” Edwards said recently, “and I think the job would’ve been a great fit. But I had some health problems [in late 2015/early 2016], which thankfully I’ve gotten over, and the timing just wasn’t right. We moved back down here in February.”

Edwards, 64, and her husband Stephen Edwards have two adult daughters who also live in Palm Coast, where she worked 21 years as a teacher and assistant superintendent before her 12½-year stint in Decatur.
