The Fayette County Board of Education has granted easements for the construction of a tunnel under Redwine Road that will give golf carts, pedestrians and bicycles safer access to the Starr’s Mill school complex.

The board voted 5-0 on Jan. 22 following a presentation by Phil Mallon of the Fayette County Public Works department that outlined the tunnel’s placement next to the Panther Path access road. The county will extend the multi-use path from Foreston Place down to the tunnel. Construction, funded by Special Purpose Local Option Sales tax funds, will be done either in the summer of 2018 or 2019.
