Douglas County high school senior dies in crash a half-mile from home

A Douglas County school is mourning the sudden death of a high school senior who died in a car crash early Friday morning.

New Manchester High School student Jadaya T. Anthony, 18, of Douglasville was killed in a car wreck on Bomar Road at 1:39 a.m. Friday when she lost control of her car, police said.

Anthony was about a half a mile from home in her 2007 Nissan Versa when she lost control in a sharp curve on Bomar Road, according to an emailed statement from the Georgia State Patrol.

She ran off the road and struck the support cable of a telephone pole. The teen then spun around, slamming into a tree on the driver’s side, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Anthony was driving “at a speed too fast for conditions,” and was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

In a letter posted on the school's website Friday, New Manchester High School Principal Connie Craft told parents and guardians, "The New Manchester High School community is saddened to notify you of the death of Jadaya Anthony, a senior at our school. The death of any young person is a loss that affects each of us in one way or another. Condolences go out to her family and friends as well as our school family and community."
