A DeKalb County elementary school was evacuated Tuesday after a broken valve forced officials to shut its water off, a district spokeswoman said.
The students at Kittredge Magnet School on East Nancy Creek Drive were taken by bus to Chamblee Middle School for the rest of the day, spokeswoman Eileen Houston-Stewart said.
Officials found that the reduced pressure zone valve was broken, and water was shut off to keep pollutants from getting into the school’s water system.
The district-wide evacuation plan specifies where students will be taken in the event of such an emergency, Houston-Stewart said. Parents were notified.
Shortly after 1 p.m., it still was not certain whether Kittredge would reopen Wednesday.
“My last report was they were about halfway through the (repair) process,” Houston-Stewart said. “We will keep parents informed.”
