Norwood appointed to election board

Fulton County commissioners Wednesday appointed former Atlanta City Councilwoman Mary Norwood to the county’s Board of Registrations and elections, but held off on appointing a new board chair.

The local Republican Party nominated Norwood, who lost to Kasim Reed for Atlanta mayor in 2009. She has pledged to address problems that plagued the county’s November general election.

Commissioners did not appoint former Atlanta Deputy City Attorney Mary Carole Cooney as election board chairwoman. Commissioner Robb Pitts nominated Cooney, but she did not receive the four votes needed for approval. Her nomination is on hold.
