The Powder Springs Planning and Zoning Commission recommended denial 5-1-1 Monday of a variance request for a new adult day care center.
Raja Antone voted in favor and Doris Dawkins was absent.
Opposed were Patrick Bordolone, Nancy Farmer, Stan Kaady, Wanda McDaniel and Johnnie Purify.
Kerline D. Piard of Malamav Community and Human Services is asking city officials to allow her adult day care center at 3942 Austell Powder Springs Road to open closer than the city’s requirement of 300 feet from another day care center.
A public hearing and final vote on this request are scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday by the city council in the Council Chambers, Community Development building, 4488 Pineview Drive.
Anyone wanting to speak at a city public hearing is required to disclose campaign contributions to the Community Development Department five days before the hearing.
