The Cobb County Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service will be combating cybercrime. A Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was approved unanimously Jan. 23 by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.
As electronic criminal fraud cases arise within the county, the police department will assign detectives to assist the USSS on these investigations, according to Cobb Police Chief Michael Register and Cobb Public Safety Director Sam Heaton. The department will be reimbursed by the USSS for investigative expenses to include any related overtime, travel, fuel, training, equipment and any other verifiable case-related cost.
This agreement can be terminated by mutual agreement of the police department and the USSS with a 30-day written notice by either agency.
