More students of the Cherokee County School District Class of 2018 took the ACT exam than in any previous class, turning in some of the highest ACT scores of metro Atlanta county school districts and 7th highest of 180 districts in the state, district officials announced.
“These strong results show that our students rise to the challenges posed by their outstanding teachers in preparation for college and careers,” Cherokee schools Superintendent Brian V. Hightower said.
A total of 1,809 Cherokee students – 63 percent of the class of 2018 – took the ACT, an 11 percent increase from the previous year, officials said. They scored an average of 23.0 (on a scale of 1-36).
Among the metro area scores: Forsyth, 24.5; Fulton, 23.7; Fayette, 23.4; Cobb, 22.8; Gwinnett, 22.6; DeKalb, 19.7; and Clayton, 17.9. State and national average ACT scores for the Class of 2018 were a respective 21.4 and 20.8.
