At 3 p.m. on Friday, March 29, the bridge on Shoal Creek Road in Lavonia will reopen to traffic. The bridge has been closed about six months, since October 2018, and was replaced through the Low Impact Bridge Replacement Program.
The Georgia Department of Transportation has developed the Low Impact Bridge Program to provide faster bridge replacement for the least complicated type bridge replacement projects. The program, introduced in 2014, has replaced and reopened 14 bridges with at least three currently under construction and 33 more scheduled for replacement within the next two or three years.
Gregory Bridge Company was awarded the $1.5 million construction project in April of 2018.
