The Auburn City Council has approved a resolution that will let its residents decide if they want the retail sale of alcohol on Sundays.

Council members approved the measure on June 16, meaning Auburn joins a growing list of Gwinnett cities to agree to a November referendum that will determine whether stores can sell alcohol on Sundays. Lilburn, Loganville and Suwanee have approved similar measures.

The state Legislature approved such referendums on the local level after a five-year fight on Sunday sales. Gov. Nathan Deal signed the bill in late April.
