Beginning in mid-October, city crews will deliver 96-gallon recycling carts to 65,000 Atlanta households, at the rate of 1,000 per day. The new 96-gallon recycling carts will replace residents’ current 18-gallon recycling bins, allowing for more recyclables to be collected. The citywide distribution of the large capacity recycling carts is aimed at a goal of diverting 90 percent of municipal waste away from landfills by 2020. Atlanta’s recycling program serves 95,000 households. About 30,000 residents already have the bigger carts.
