The creation of a commission to evaluate the compensation of Atlanta Police, Fire and Rescue and Corrections personnel has been proposed by City Council members.
The Public Safety Compensation Commission would help the Council “develop a long-term strategy for creating best in class employee compensation packages for all City public safety personnel,” according to a resolution on this week’s agenda of the Community Development & Human Resources Committee.
The 13-member commission would have 12 members named by the mayor, Council, police union, police and fire pension boards, and the Atlanta Fire Rescue and Corrections departments; and the Commissioner of Human Resources. They would be confirmed by the Council, serve four years and meet twice over the during the four-year period.
The resolution is sponsored by Council Members Michael Julian Bond and Mary Norwood and previously was amended by the Public Safety and Legal Administration Committee.
